We wrote AT&T to let them know that more than 85,000 ColorOfChange members have asked that they disassociate themselves from ALEC. We made sure AT&T knew that through their membership in ALEC, they supported racially-discriminatory voter ID laws that have the potential to disenfranchise over 5 million people in the upcoming elections.

After hearing that information, Coca-Cola, Pepsi and Kraft Foods all decided to end their relationship with ALEC. But despite numerous emails and telephone calls, we can’t get AT&T’s management to get back in touch with us. It appears they believe that if they ignore us we’ll simply go away.

Will you help us hold AT&T accountable for supporting voter suppression?Please take a moment to call AT&T and demand that they stop supporting ALEC.

By funding the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), eBay is supporting an organization that has worked to disenfranchise African Americans, Latinos, students, the elderly, the disabled, and the poor. We wrote eBay to let them know that more than 100,000 ColorOfChange members have asked that they disassociate themselves from ALEC.

After hearing that information, Walgreens, General Motors, Wal-Mart, MillerCoors and other major corporations decided to end their relationship with ALEC. AFAIK there’s a ton of cissexism in ALEC’s voter ID garbage as well.  EDIT: and more, and more, and damn i don’t know as much about this issue as i should.  still reading about this elsewhere.

Last week, ColorOfChange along with partners at MoveOn.org, Change.org and Ohio Organizing Collaborative delivered more than 80,000 petition signatures to Secretary of State Jon Husted’s office demanding full access to the polls for Ohioans. But so far, he has ignored our demands.

It’s one of the nastiest voter suppression schemes we’ve seen: this week, in Black and Latino neighborhoods in Ohio and Wisconsin, an anonymous group started running outrageous billboards which try to scare people away from voting.

Allowing an anonymous advertiser to create an atmosphere of fear around voting just as the early voting period begins is unacceptable. Clear Channel has rejected billboard ads many times in the past. Please join us in demanding that Clear Channel immediately take down these offensive and dangerous billboards.
