Google’s Middle East head, Wael Ghonim, missing in Egypt
This is one of the last tweets Wael Ghonim sent. He hasn’t been heard from since last week, and many are worried about the head of Google Middle East – and it’s gotten to the point where al-Jazeeera is asking aloud where he is. Has anyone heard from him? source
This is terrifying.
I hope they find him, alive and well. :/
[image: tweet from Wael Ghonim (@Ghonim) that reads: “Pray for #Egypt. Very worried as it seems that government is planning a war crime tomorrow against people. We are all ready to die.”]
my hopes are with him, too. and with all of the protesters.
(dunno if this has been circulated here yet: change.org petition by protesters)

[image: tweet from @HeyTammyBruce that reads “Muslim driver. Keeps talking the Arabic on phone, keeps asking me personal questions. The Italian in me is showing unusual restraint.”]
I realize my “thing” with Tammy Bruce is a monumental waste of time, even for me, but blatant Muslim bashing always catches me off-guard. I think Muslim cabbies have been through enough without having to cart your shrill, bigoted ass around, Tammy. What an utterly worthless person.
This is so disgusting.
you can just hear her smug eye-rolling in this post. fucking ridiculous.

{ Leonard Peltier Defense Offense Committee: Mass Call-In to CNN Monday, July 11, 2011 }
this is from an email i got. if you cannot do any of these things, please pass this around if possible. thanks.
Join us in a coordinated mass call-in to CNN on behalf of Leonard Peltier. Shut CNN down until they realize they have a story.
On Monday, July 11th, at 10 a.m. (Eastern Time), start calling with your statement. It is important that the calls to CNN start promptly at 10 a.m. Insist that they cover the injustice posed by the continuing imprisonment of Leonard Peltier. Advise them of Leonard’s current situation (see http://lpdoc.blogspot.com/2011/07/leonard-peltier-in-hole-at-lewisburg.html), and tell CNN personnel that they should contact the Leonard Peltier Defense Offense Committee at 701-235-2206 for information and referrals.
Then call back and ask for specific news anchors to cover/respond. Remember to be firm, but polite. Tell them freedom for Peltier is the only solution to this 35+-year injustice.
They may tell you that they get their stories from their affiliates (local) channels. While this is true, it is also true that they cover both whatever they wish and stories that demand coverage. We MUST demand coverage.
Call CNN at 404-827-1500 at 10 a.m., Monday, July 11, 2011. Dial one for both of the first and second automated prompts/choices.
You also may submit story ideas online. Visit http://www.cnn.com/feedback/forms/form11e.html to submit a story idea or http://www.cnn.com/feedback/tips/newstips.html to submit a news tip.
Or Tweet them: @TeamCNN.

{ LINK: [petition] ICE still planning to deport the Mathe-Karekezi family! }
just got an email about this from DreamActivist:
The Mathe family has a check-in with ICE this coming Tuesday, August 2nd. There they will learn if they too will be detained and deported. We need to stop the deportation of the Mathe family right away, we cannot allow for Andy’s family to be deported. Andrea will you help the Mathe family?
We are asking that you sign the petition in support of the family, each signature will be delivered instantly to the decision makers in ICE. We are asking that the family’s request for deferred action be granted. The deportation of Andy was a grave injustice, we cannot allow for ICE to make the same decision with the remainder of his family.
Send an e-mail to ICE demanding they stop the deportation of the Mathe-Karekezi family.
[…]
We’ll keep you updated about future actions, for now though we urge you to please send ICE an email in support of the Mathe family. On Tuesday the Immigrant Youth Justice League will be rallying outside of ICE, we can help make a big impact if we flood ICE with signatures in lead up to the event.
Thank you,
Mohammad Abdollahi
co-founder of DreamActivist.org
they are also asking that people on Facebook and/or Twitter help with this. they suggest tweeting this:
“RT @wwwicegov u already made mistake & deported Andy Mathe to his death, is his family next? #enough www.bit.ly/mathefam @DreamAct”
EDIT: [image at link: photo of the Mathe family sitting together and smiling. from [our] left to right: Malcom, Hope, Shammah, and Andy. Shammah is sitting in Hope’s lap. everyone except Hope gives the peace sign (first 2 fingers held up and apart). they all seem pretty happy. they all have dark hair and brown skin. Malcom has a heart-shaped face and close-cropped hair, and wears a white t-shirt. Hope has a round face, long locs, and wears a red shirt. Shammah has an oval face and short-ish hair in braids (i think). she wears a pink t-shirt and a blue knee-length ruffled skirt. Andy has close-cropped hair, a round face, and wears a black shirt.]

{ LINK: NEWS about Sandra F. Lopez }
from the same email from DreamActivist:
Like we said this week has been a rollercoaster of a week, yesterday we told you about Sandra Lopez, a DREAMer from Arizona who was to be deported for the 2nd time. Sandra has lived in Arizona since she was just 3 days old and the good news is that she won’t be deported just yet. ICE planned on deporting her yesterday but thanks to the outpouring of support from all of you those plans were put on hold! Sandra is still here, she is not out of the woods yet in fact she is still sitting in a detention center. We need ICE to grant deferred action to Sandra, she is a DREAMer and should not be going through this.
EDITed to add: this would be unfair even if she was NOT a DREAMer.
the title of this post links to her petition. they’re also still asking that we ask Senator Reid to help. as far as i know, he hasn’t introduced a private bill for her yet. they’re asking that we call him (702-388-5020 and 202-224-3542 and 775-686-5750) and tweet him (RT @SenatorReid).
also, fax numbers for all the Senator’s offices (link to source):
-
Carson City: 775-883-1980
-
Las Vegas: 702-388-5030
-
Reno: 775-686-5757
-
Rural Nevada: 702-388-5030
-
Washington: 202-224-7327
and here are some online free faxing websites:
NOTE: all of these have a limit of 2 faxes every 24 hours.
