{ LINK: Feb. 25: NYC Rally in Solidarity with the people of Bahrain, Libya, & Yemen }
Friday, February 25, 11:30am – 3:30pm
In Front of the United Nations Building, 2 United Nations Plaza (866 2nd ave)
Please join the peaceful rally in New York City to stand in solidarity with the people of Bahrain, Libya, and Yemen. Friday prayers will be held at the protest site and the demonstration will follow.
On December 17, 2010 a man set fire to himself and sparked a revolution. Twenty-six-year-old Mohamed Bouazizi’s single act became the catalyst that would forever redefine the Middle East. Mohamed accomplished what leaders entrenched in decades of rule failed to do- he restored hope, lifted the siege of fear, and brought real change to a region long starving for it.
With the example from the patience and persistence of the people of Tunisia and Egypt, we have learned, now more than ever, the power of peaceful demonstrations.
Therefore, we invite all supporters of basic human rights to help us express our solidarity with those fighting for their freedom dignity and social justice.
It is particularly important that the youth step up and make their presence felt. It has been the persistence of the youth in Tunisia and Egypt that have been the agents of change in their respective countries.
It is time for a new generation of Arabs to step up and demand a better future.
Co-sponsored by Muslims for Peace, Al-Awda NY: The Palestine Right to Return Coalition, and the Libyan League for Human Rights

{ LINK: MoveOn.org's "Rally to Save the American Dream" (re: Wisconsin) }
i don’t know how to feel about this — i’ve heard some ehhhhhh things about MoveOn.org, and also the attitude of this blurb makes me uncomfortable (it’s been pointed out by redlightpolitics and dancingonembers and others that “we are all Libyans” is bullshit so that means “we are all Wisconsin” is bullshit, too, right?).
i’m curious as to what you all think, if you don’t mind and you’ve got the time/energy. i may be being too suspicious or not suspicious enough about this; my head has been full of fuck lately and i don’t feel like i can trust my own opinions. i’m sorry if this is just me being an entitled fuck and asking you to do my homework for me.
anyway here’s the blurb:
In Wisconsin and around our country, the American Dream is under fierce attack. Instead of creating jobs, Republicans are giving tax breaks to corporations and the very rich—and then cutting funding for education, police, emergency response, and vital human services.
On Saturday, February 26, at noon local time, we are organizing rallies in front of every statehouse and in every major city to stand in solidarity with the people of Wisconsin. We demand an end to the attacks on worker’s rights and public services across the country. We demand investment, to create decent jobs for the millions of people who desperately want to work. And we demand that the rich and powerful pay their fair share.
We are all Wisconsin. We are all Americans.
This Saturday, we will stand together to Save the American Dream. Be sure to wear Wisconsin Badger colors—red and white—to show your solidarity. Sign up today to join in!

{ I’ve officially lost my mind. }
THANKS, MOVEON. THANKS A LOT.
In case you don’t already know, MoveOn scheduled their solidarity rallies with Wisconsin AT THE EXACT SAME TIME as Walk for Choice. At first I thought it might be alright, but now scores of people are abandoning Walk for Choice in favor of the MoveOn rallies.
I just want to quit. There’s no fucking point anymore. This was an uphill battle to begin with and now it just feels so futile. I thought we would have grabbed at least some media attention by now and I was so hopelessly mistaken. I’m a small fish in a pond that is far, far too large.
Chin up…this was a disappointing and totally devastating thing for MoveOn to do, but there are still so many people that will be coming to the marches all over. And those of us that walk care, and we know how much this fight matters, we just all have to keep fighting. If we walk, there’s a chance they won’t hear us. But if we don’t, they definitely won’t.
<3 you bb.
well i guess that moveon shit wasn’t so positive after all. god dammit.

{ DETAILS for emergency rally on Monday! }
We have learned that the extreme groups behind the dangerous efforts to bar Planned Parenthood from receiving federal funding are bringing their lies to our community - and we need to be there to tell the truth! On Monday, Live Action’s Lila Rose will be stopping in Geneva, Illinois to say thanks to Representative Hultgren (IL-14) for his vote on the Pence Amendment – a vote against women. We need to make sure that Representative Hultgren hears from Illinois citizens that his vote was unacceptable!
Stand with Planned Parenthood Rally
Monday, March 7th
2:45 pm – 3:45 pm
1797 State Street
Geneva, IL 60134
