{ Okay so, this hospital bill is not a good thing at all, I’m gonna need help. }

pixyled:

genderbitch:

Please folks, donate if you can. The button is on the front of my blog.

I took down the total of the money that’s going to that homeless trans women fund so that I can get donations again without taking any of that money and I plan to move it to the fund or donation thingie asap.

I hate asking for this but I dunno how long I can sustain my shit and I dunno if more hospital bills are coming, cuz this is JUST the anesthesia. Not the post op ward stay.

Any help ya’ll could give her would be great

{ Want to help Kelley Williams-Bolar? }

She is the black mother who was convicted of a felony and sentenced to jail time and probation for sending her two daughters to a school in a different district. As you have probably guessed, the school they attended is safer and whiter than the one in the girls’ neighborhood. The school hired a private detective to catch this woman.

She’s in need of donations to appeal the sentence.
You can send them to the National Action Network Akron Chapter, c/o Kelley Williams-Bolar, P.O. Box 4152, Akron, Ohio, 44321. Checks can be made payable to Williams-Bolar.

Please spread this far and wide.

i was wondering how they caught her. absolutely ridiculous. help if u can.

For those of you who missed the original story or my rant about it on Gawker, I encourage you to read about it and get involved.

This woman is sitting in jail right now for trying to get her children out of the projects and a dismally failing school system in order to give them the same opportunities that kids in the 86.4% White neighboring township have. For breaking laws and policies that ensure that the 40% of African-Americans who live in poverty in her city - a city that was once home to the largest Ku Klux Klan chpater in the nation - will stay uneducated and unable to rise above their conditions.

The National Action Network is the non-profit civil rights organization founded and run by the Rev. Al Sharpton. Whatever you think of the man personally, it is an established and reputable organization that has been thoroughly vetted for donations.

Even if you just send $5 in a card that says “Good Luck” send something. This is entirely too fucked up not to take a stand over.

You can also sign the petition for sentencing reduction here.

Reblogging again for MizJenkins great additional info.

Hi TOSD community!

We need your help raising $2,000 for a lift and a sling!!  This is the lift that Stacey will use to lift her in and out of bed, to go to the bathroom and take a shower.  It makes a HUGE difference and means that more people can do PA (personal attendant) work and more folks can sign up for careshift slots regardless of their physical abilities. It is a safer way for Stacey to move around and reduces risk and strain (all around) of Stacey and her PAs.

Stand-Up Lift*Since we shot this video we were able to talk the woman selling the lift down from $2,200 to $1,800!  But then realized that we will need to buy a new sling for Stacey to be able to use the lift, which will cost $600.  sigh.

We had to move fast because to buy the kind of lift Stacey needed would be SO much more than $1,800 and without it, Stacey needed two people to lift her out of bed.  (Special thanks to Steph, Elaine, Rhea, Yvonne, Io, and Evan for filling last-minute careshift slots to help Stacey get out of bed before she had the lift!!  Go, team community!)

So, now we have the lift, but still need to fundraise the money it costs as well as buy the sling Stacey needs to be able to use it.

We are asking folks, if you’re able to, to help us pay for the lift and sling.  Please use the chipIn link to the right to give or email totheothersideofdreaming@gmail.com to send a check.

Any amount is so appreciated, because the very act of giving is more powerful than the amount of money. And we know that there are many ways to give; that giving money is no more valuable than the folks who have given their time, support, love and care.

We wished we lived in a world where we didn’t have to pay for access, where ableism and capitalism weren’t so intertwined.  Where we could all be able to use the bathroom and visit our loved ones, wherever they may be.  You all give us faith that that world is possible.  It is.  The support we have received from people (around the world) for TOSD has been astounding, proving what we already know is true, even as we trudge through the tedium and exhaustion of daily access: collective access is possible and we aren’t alone.

with love and appreciation,

Mia and Stacey

PS: This is the first of many videos to come from TOSD! Stay tuned for our next one, the adventure to get the lift, soon!

SOOO SO SO happy for STACEY AND MIA!!!!!!! Support them if you can!!!!! XOXOXO

I decided to combine all of the ways you can donate to help Rio flood victims into a single post, especially because the Brazil Foundation announced today that they will be accepting online donations on behalf of two Rio organizations working to help victims, including VivaRio and Instituto da Criança. The death toll is currently at 744 and growing, and nearly 14,000 people are temporarily homeless.

damekatharsis:

Valentine’s Day, which accounts for 40% of fresh flower sales annually, is fast approaching. If you’re planning to order a bouquet from 1-800-Flowers — the world’s largest florist — you should know where most of those flowers really come from. At flower farms in Ecuador and Colombia — the countries that export the most to the U.S. — two-thirds of the workers are women. These women are routinely subjected to harassment and even rape from their male supervisors. They suffer eye infections and miscarriages from consistent contact with dangerous pesticides. In the weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day, they’re routinely forced to work 80-hour weeks with no overtime pay. Attempts to form a union are met with opposition by police and armed forces.

Many retailers — such as Whole Foods and Stop & Shop — have taken the important first step of offering Fair Trade flowers to consumers who want no part of these abuses. Fair Trade certified farms must adhere to strict standards for workers’ rights, which prevents the abuses described above.

Click on the link to sign the petition.

 Another option is to just opt out of cut flowers and give a different gift. Since so many flowers aren’t fair trade (and fair trade is more expensive) why not take the money that would have been spent on flowers and either go out to a meal, donate it to charity in the name of your partner, buy a dvd and watch it together, or maybe even buy some seeds and plant them. Flowers are a temporary gift, where as other more lasting things (even seeds to grow a live flower) can create great memories together on valentines day.

Sign the petition. Seriously. And I totally second to vote to donate in your person’s name instead of buying flowers (even fair trade ones). To start, there’s a list of trans-friendly shelters and crisis centers available here at Questioning Transphobia.

{ How to Help Libya }

thelibyanrevolution:

A lot of people, like myself want to help Libya and the Libyan revolution but don’t really know how. I’m just going to toss out a few ideas as to how to contribute.

1. Informing: Informing people about an issue is possibly the most basic of activism and of a movement. Tumblr, twitter, facebook, all are good ways of spreading the word and gaining support for the movement. Another thing to do is contact local media such as newspapers (Letters to the Editor about the Libyan movement, for example).

2. Aids: Find a human rights type of group or organization around your local area. Go ask if they are doing anything for Libya. If they are, ask if you can help. Donate supplies, time, and money into the operation. If they aren’t, calmly explain why you think supporting the Libyan movement is important and try and get them to organize a project to send aids.

3. Action: This can be as little as making a bumper sticker for your car saying that you support Libya. Actually doing something in the forefront of your local community about it instead of in the background might be a lot more helpful and efficient.

Just some ideas as to how you can support Libya from your country.
