In August Cesar was pulled over for a basic traffic violation.  Instead of a ticket he was arrested and charged with driving without a license. Cesar has been in detention for over 2 months. Help us stop his deportation!

Make a Phone Call Now

Call DC ICE – John Morton (202.732.3000) and Detroit ICE Field Office (313.568.6049)

Sample Script: “Hi, I was calling to urge you to set bond for DREAM Act Eligible student Cesar Montoya (A#200-297-690). Cesar has been living here for most of his life and deserves to stay in the U.S. with his family and friends. He is DREAM eligible and considers the U.S. his home. Set bond for Cesar Montoya.”

Demand that Sen. Durbin step in to help stop Cesar’s deportation!

Call Senator Durbin: Demand Action for Cesar!

Senator Durbin: (202) 224-2152

“Hi, I was calling to voice my disappointment at the Senator for refusing to help DREAMer Ramon Aguirre, he was already deported to Mexico.  I am really upset that the Senator is now refusing to help another DREAMer, Cesar Montoya (A#200-297-690).  Cesar has been detained for over two months now. His only criminal record is a driving without a license charge.  He is DREAM Act eligible, why is the Senator not helping Cesar?”

Call Rep. Hanson Clarke of Michigan: (202) 225-2261 and ask him ‘why he isn’t stepping up to help Cesar Montoya (A# 200-297-690).’

It is sad that we need to push even our strongest allies to help.  We know the Obama administration is full of lies but we didn’t expect the same from our Senate allies. Work with us to keep them in line.

UPDATE:

Thanks to you, Cesar was released from ICE detention and will be able to celebrate his 25th birthday with his family. However, we must continue to pressure ICE to stop his deportation. Sign the petition to get him deferred action!

Make a Phone Call Now - Goal is 100 calls for the day

He has spent four months in detention.  He is DREAM Act eligible, i thought Obama said he wasn’t deporting DREAMers? Please stop Cesar’s deportation and grant him deferred action!”

{ LINK: Give Basel His Day In Court! [email/phone call/fax campaign] }

the form that lets you email and fax the Governor and ICE is at the link.  please do these things [edit: as soon as possible]/pass this around if you can.  thank you.

Basel El-Bathy is a businessman employing approximately 10 people.  He’s got a Masters in Business Administration.  Basel has gone through the long legal process to get his Green Card.  According to Governor Snyder, these are exactly the kind of immigrants that Michigan so desperately needs.  According to the President, these are the immigrants that ICE should not be deporting.

Basel has a beautiful family formed by his wife, Rasha,  and only child, Baadr.  Unfortunately, Baadr was born prematurely and now has respiratory complications.  The family depends Basel’s business for financial security.

Basel has served and helped so many people in the community.  But now, Basel needs your help.  Basel has been in ICE’s custody since May of 2011.  ICE will be deporting Basel to Egypt any day, unless you take action.

ICE wants to deport Basel because he plead guilty to a minor infraction due to bad counsel from his attorney.  Basel has not even been able to fight his case in court.  ICE does not want to let him have his day in court to prove his innocence.

ICE needs to let Basel out so he can prove his innocence in court.

Take action and tell ICE to let Basel have his day in court.  Call Khaalid Walls in Detroit (313) 226-0726 and John Morton in DC (202) 732-3000 and tell them:

I am calling to ask that you please use discretion in deporting Basel El-Bathy (A# 087-084-976).  He has not had the chance do defend himself in court on false charges.  Please let Basel stay so he can have his day in court.

ALSO

Take action by sending an email and fax to ICE and Governor Snyder asking for his help.

also, the email Alliance for Immigrant Rights are sending around about this has details about Basel El-Bathy’s case:

Basel El-Bathy is an Egyptian immigrant that went through the whole legal process to come to this country.  He went to school and received a Masters in Business Administration and has opened up three businesses in Southeast Michigan.  Basel has created jobs and fueled our economy as he built a life here in Michigan with his wife, and US Citizen son.

Last year, Basel was accused of not properly insuring some of the equipment at one of his gas stations.  Basel maintains that he tried to pay, but that there were errors in the paperwork between the insurance company, the bank, and the state.

Basel wanted to fight the accusations in court to clear his name.  However, his lawyer told him that this was such a minor problem, it would just be easier to plead guilty, pay the fine, and move on with his life.

What Basel’s lawyer didn’t tell him was that pleading guilty to the charges would place him in deportation.  He’s now been in immigration detention since May pending deportation back to Egypt.

from an email they sent out — if you cannot be there and cannot donate, passing this around also helps:

The “prosecutorial discretion” program is failing.  Less than 2% of deportation cases have been halted.  That’s not what the Administration promised us, and it’s unacceptable.

Here in Michigan, we’re working with a victim of human traffcking from China who was denied, a father of 3 US Citizen children who ICE continues to prosecute, a 14 year-old girl from El Salvador who is being prosecuted, and a Bangaldeshi immigrant who was denied despite 20 years in the US, a US citizen child, and his wife’s pregnancy.

If discretion isn’t for these people, who could it possibly be for?

So we’re headed to Washington DC to demand the immediate halt to the deportations of families and young people.

Jorge and Cindy Garcia from Lincoln Park will be joined by families and students from all across the country who face the deportations that the Administration promised us would stop.  We’re demanding that the Department of Homeland Security meet with these familes and see the human face of their broken policies.

They need an explanation, and they need justice.  They also need YOUR HELP:

1) Join the send-off rally for the Garcias at Christ the Good Shepherd Church on Sunday, at 11:00 AM, 1540 Riverbank Street, Lincoln Park,  Click to RSVP on Facebook.

2) Donate $50 to help cover the cost of the trip!  We need your support to make it to Washington.

Keep it up -

Ryan & the AIR Team

[WARNING for the Cayla Roberts page (the link at “a victim of human trafficking” above): in addition to talk of human trafficking, there’s mention of sexual abuse and murder/forced suicide threats]

{ Big News for Students - Let’s Make Sure It Happens | Alliance for Immigrants Rights & Reform Michigan }

from an email they sent out — please participate if possible and please pass this around:

Hope for DREAM Students

Thank the President and Demand Proper Implementation

Big news today.  The President announced that he would stop the deportations of young people who would be eligible for the DREAM Act.  Many might even be eligible for work permits.

I just graudated from Cesar Chavez High School as salutatorian.  The announcement gives me, and hundreds of thousands of other undocumented youth, a lot of hope for the future.  I could be a big step closer to achieving my dream of becoming a physicist.

This isn’t full justice - it’s a temporary stop to our deportations, and doesn’t include our parents.  But we should still celebrate a big win.

We have to make sure that this change is properly implemented.  We’ve heard big announcements before - often resulting in little action.

Help now: click to thank President Obama for taking this important step, urge him to properly and fully implement the change immediately, and demand that Congress support relief for DREAM students as well.  Already they’re talking about trying to roll this win back.

La lucha continua -

-Juan and the AIR Team

PS: Were you planning to come to this Sunday’s rally for families? It’s still on— we’re still fighting for the Garcias.  But we have something to celebrate too.
