{ LINK: Radical Hott Off Notes: one reason why feministe is in a folder in my google reader titled "we say feminist but we really usually only mean... }
feministe has this post up with about ten comments about a pregnant woman getting kicked out of a bar.
all the comments are something like, “that’s ridiculous!” (which it is)
however earlier last year there was a guest post by a woman named mai’a who…
i am SHOCKED. SHOCKED, I TELL YOU!
no, i’m not.
and this is why i only went to that crappin’ site because Mai’a was writing for it. (traumatizing as that whole time was for me, imagine for a minute what it could have done to Mai’a to deal with that shit.)
and this is also why i do not identify as feminist. all this, right here.
damn soul-killing is what *F*eminism is…
Do Tommorow is a cussing Out folk day yes!

Angelica Kauffmann, Portrait of a Young Woman, 1781. Oil on canvas, 130 x 102 cm.
Frankfurter Goethe-Museum, FrankfurtNote the lambent white skin of the sitter, Tumblr.
It was probably painted using crushed up, stolen dead bodies.
During the 18th century, mummy brown was a prized pigment as it apparently gave a certain glow when used to paint flesh. The trope of whiteness = purity was still held during this period (and probably always will, thanks to white supremacism and classism). Since the pigment was imported from North Africa, there was also an element of conspicuous consumption - high-so women would want to be painted using expensive pigments such as lead white and mummy brown. Good quality, real mummy brown from Egyptian mummies were distinguished by their strong garlicky odour - so along with all the other paints and mediums and varnishes, these paintings were probably quite pungent.
It just makes you wonder, doesn’t it, about how beauty is bought on the backs of others…

Another great batch of OK Cupid data
via esushi
Click through for more of their interesting finds.
This is hugely problematic, assumes a lot of things in terms of race and class implications.
Would anyone like to take this on?
This is just an astonishing amount of bullshit. I hate these kinds of things. It reminds me of some meme that circulated a few years ago that tried to establish a relationship between low SAT scores and liking “African-American literature”.
1. First of all, why are people even asking such questions? I have to assume that anyone who is framing this investigation in such a way is not doing so in good faith, that they are TRYING to prove some sort of relationship between religion and “writing ability”. And this, in itself, is prejudiced.
2. If I’m understanding this correctly, the only criterion they are using to determine grade level is the Coleman-Liau index, which is—get this—NOT an index of grade level writing proficiency, but of what grade level should be able to understand it. And it’s only based on average number of characters per word. THAT’S IT. The newspaper USA Today is supposedly written at a 3rd grade writing level or something like that, but I highly doubt that that means the authors of those articles are only able to write at a third-grade reading level.
3. These are only averages. That means that there could be a number of Protestants writing at a “much higher level” than the average OK Cupid atheist.
4. This also doesn’t say anything about the sample sizes. There might have been many fewer members of certain religions on the site, thus skewing the data.
5. Some religions (at least on OK Cupid, which is NOT THE WORLD and has vastly differing popularity in different communities and regions) may have a much higher percentage of people whose native languages are not English. This is not to say that this is true, or that people who are not L1 English speakers don’t on average have English vocabularies as “sophisticated” (read: Latinate) as “native” English writers and speakers—people who learn English later in life are as varied in terms of English vocabulary as people for whom English is a first language.
6. Not to mention that THIS IS NOT A VALID FUCKING MEASURE OF WRITING ABILITY, so all of the points after #2 are really moot anyway.
Anything else?

{ I Live In A Remote Hamlet And My Father Has Less Cows Than Your Father. }
There is a way of reporting dusty news to arouse utmost sympathy. This method is so universal that dusty peepal use it too*:
- Talk about cows goat sheep ram mice and how someone has more animals than the person you’re discussing.
- Talk about how squatting in this ditch is worse than say, That One; use pictures and say That One has more leg-room. This means peepals squatting in That One are less oppressed. This is also how you measure two forms of oppression, just fyi
- Talk about Remote Hamlet and how far from Civilisation It Is, this way nice imperial person can drool-dream about saving Remote Hamlet while sitting in the Center Of Civilisation.
- The Remote Hamlet should have at least one villain who wants to eat peepals for lunch or something. Otherwise no one will be interested in knowing about Remote Hamlet peeps.
———
This is a seriously triggering interview with a rape survivor in the Times Of India which used the word ‘Hamlet’ instead of ‘village’ or ‘town’ that got me thinking about misrepresentation. I suggest not looking at this interview if victim-blaming triggers you. I had to wait about 11 hours before I could open that link and I was still shivering so a fair warning.

the gongoozler who loved me: Black Mother Jailed for Sending Kids to White School District
Black Mother Jailed For Sending Kids to White School District
An Ohio mother of two was sentenced to 10 days in jail and placed on three years probation after sending her kids to a school district in which they did not live. Kelly Williams-Bolar was…
Are you kidding me? Mostly misleading headline ever. She did something illegal. We pay property taxes to pay for the kids in OUR district to go to OUR schools, it has nothing to do with race. School districts are zoned so that funding can be distributed properly between students. This is total BS
The problem is that there is disparity in the quality of education between the school districts. So, she is not supposed to want a better education for her kids? She should be criminalized for believing in your shitty American dogma of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”? This has EVERYTHING to do with race. Black folks do not have the same income to pay the same property taxes as white folks because they do not get the same education and privileges as white children, and thus will not be hired for the same professional positions because they do not have the same “qualifications” and thus will not live in a high income area where their children will be given a good education. The entire system is built to create systemic disadvantages for POC. She was taking what should rightfully belong to her: an equal opportunity for her children. Isn’t that what your country prides yourself in offering to its citizens?

{ if you can afford to be on tumblr, you can afford to be vegan }
and thats all im gonna say..
So much bullshit and lies.
LIES!
Yeah ‘cause going into your local library and using the free internet is super hard these days… -_-
I’m glad you stopped talking before you made a bigger fool of yourself.
Oh this is nice because I hadn’t yet got my daily dose of obnoxious classism and food-based snobbery.

I’m glad you stopped…
TBQH, being vegan is relatively cheap - most people believe that you have to eat only organic food, and that’s not what being vegan is. I started saving a lot of money since I gave up dairy and meat. Vegetables are just cheaper. You don’t need to eat only organic food, or to buy fake cheeses, or to eat tofurky everyday. I don’t do any of these things (they’re not even avaiable in my country), my bloodwork is just perfect, and I’m vegan.
It’s not like certain people have certain protein needs due to chronic illness, disability or different body functionality or anything.
It’s not like common vegan sources of protein are often very difficult to digest (see: beans)
It’s not like many poor people still will buy something nice by saving up for it (which is loads different than committing to a diet, something you have to pay for everyday, which requires more money than just a quick save up one time deal) despite society’s viewpoint that poor people need to suffer for their situation to be accepted, part of a classist bullshit party that many vegans love to dance in.
Oh wait.
All of those things are true. Stop being offensively wrong.
So I’d put it this way: if you can afford to access Tumblr everyday in your new notebook, you probably can start buying more vegetables and stop eating meat.
BTW I use a desktop Core2Duo I bought a year and a half ago.
I use a broken as shit 5 year old laptop cuz my desktop’s motherboard is fried. A desktop I saved up for. I’m currently saving up for a motherboard. And I’m using the net of someone who took me in cuz I’m homeless.
But hey, thanks for policing poor people and what we’re allowed to spend our money on. I’ll make sure to follow your whiny classist bigoted asshole rules from now on about how poor people are allowed to be. So sorry for daring to deviate from the poor-ass ideal.
Reblogging for commentary.
and me, starting arguments on facebook since 2010.
1776 and before even!

*Trigger Warning* for classism and horrors of foster care system
someone responded to that facebook post and said “if they have money to get drugs, they have money to buy food.” and had the nerve to say “if they’re on drugs just take their kids away from them.”
i’m like… wait… you want to take the kids out of the home and throw them into the foster care system which has been proven to be a problematic situation anyway. With people taking kid after kid after kid and using them just for the monthly stipend? Physical, mental, and verbal abuse, molestation, sexual assault, workers who don’t have the time, resources, or energy to check on their clients? the list doesn’t end. the last place a kid should be unless it’s absolutely necessary is in the foster care system, imho.
and all i want to know is who thought up that argument? people think buying heroin is like going to walmart or something, apparently.
“oh, what’s that? you’d like some heroin? well that’ll be $28.95 madam. no tax this time. i’ll eat that.”
“sir, you’ve been coming here regularly for 4 years. you’ve sucked copious amounts of dick for cocaine and you know we have a strict 8.6% tax on it. oh, and as of February 11, 2011, we’ll no longer be accepting checks.”
“thank you! come again! - wait, we know you’ll come again. and again. and again.”

{ I know y’all are getting sick of me and my future career }
Obama, you know more ppl will teach if you pay them better and respect them more. and stop giving tenure to crappy teachers. And stop using test scores as the mark of a great school. Cuz not all of the inner city kids can afford that.
But that’s not gonna happen. Hell, at least forgive my loans. And lock me in at a school for 5 years. I’m sure more ppl would sign up.
I am sure of it.
when you think of all the occupations that make more than teachers, but don’t have {for most parts} the same impact, you begin to wonder about the society. Like, average NFL player makes 1.8 million. Teachers make, like what, 50k?
i’m not saying teachers should make 1.8million or that NFLers should make 50k, but I think there’s a sign here.
