MY INTERNET IS SO DEAD

Ohhhh I missed you tumblr, with all your crazy colourful pictures THAT I CAN’T SEE UNTIL 11 AT NIGHT

I know this is a semi-old post, but I wanted to point out that “crazy” is a very uncool ableist slur.

Richard Littlejohn, everyone.  This guy’s a real piece of work — he’s been slinging his bile all over the UK and apparently he wants to start writing in the US.  As if we yanks haven’t got enough trouble with Glenn Beck and O’Reilly and Coulter and Hannity and all the other FOX News motherfuckers and their ilk we have to put up with, goddamn.

To clarify (because the “Like” system isn’t so clear here): I Like the anti-Palmer sentiment in the reblogs rather than the pro-Palmer rant.  Palmer’s such an asshole.

Especially love this from haterina:

To dismiss people with disabilities and minimise the terror that people of colour live with in their lives is absolutely politically correct as it supports the current status quo.

all the comments are something like, “that’s ridiculous!” (which it is)

i am SHOCKED. SHOCKED, I TELL YOU!

no, i’m not.

and this is why i only went to that crappin’ site because Mai’a was writing for it. (traumatizing as that whole time was for me, imagine for a minute what it could have done to Mai’a to deal with that shit.)

and this is also why i do not identify as feminist. all this, right here.

Are you aware that restraint and seclusion in US schools are poorly regulated, and disability rights activists have been trying for several YEARS now to get a law banning restraint and seclusion in schools passed? A report from the AP last year (content note for abuse of PWDs, suicide, and see how I cited my source?) notes one of the more dire consequences of lack of regulation:

“It took the death of my son for everybody to start listening about this problem,” said King, a construction worker who lives in Gainesville, north of Atlanta. “I wish we had known they were locking him up like that or we would have taken him out of that school. They treated my kid like a prisoner.”
It is perfectly legal for schools across the United States to place children in isolation as well as tying/tethering and otherwise restricting their movement.

Jesus.

You just can’t eat bread. Or pasta. Or any kind of baked good. Or any kind of junk food. Or eggs. Or meat. Or cheese. Or any kind of vegan meat or cheese substitute. Or milk. And eventually you’ll become allergic to soy, but don’t worry about that. For…

i have auto-immune and i can’t eat lactose, casein, soy, gluten, nuts, and most legumes (yes, including beans). and can have meat limited times throughout the week.

It irritates me beyond all belief when vegans and vegetarians demand evidence of people not being able to give up animal products because of health problems, as if the only problem here is simply omnivorous ignorance and not anything real.

It is so entitled and absolutely ableist to demand details of people’s disabilities for whatever reason.

NO FOR FUCK’S SAKE.

So many things wrong with this.

Bisexual means attraction to two genders. Bi means two. Two genders. Not necessarily women and men. A bisexual person can be attracted to genderqueer individuals and . There was some discussion on my blog about how most peoples’ definitions of bisexuality are rather binarist. There’s an example of it.

ANOTHER THING.

Someone who is attracted to all gender expressions.

Yes, that much is true. But wait, that’s not the issue that I have here.

men, women, and trans*

C’mon… There are a LOT more types of gender expression other than “men, women, and trans*” …And I’m pretty sure that for most people (I’m not speaking on behalf of the trans* community), they don’t consider trans* to be a “third gender.” Trans* women are women. Trans* men are men. At least  add an “etc…” to tell people that there are more gender expressions than the three that you mentioned.

OH, AND ANOTHER THING.

“Gender blindness”

By saying that you are “gender blind,” you’re basically saying “Haha I don’t give a flying fuck about your gender that you’re proud of and love so much coz I’m all gender blind and shit. I don’t have enough sensitivity to realize how much your gender identity matters to you. You’re ____? Great, I don’t care coz I’m gender blind.”

NO. NO. NO.

This is like saying “I’m color blind.”
You, asshat. Claiming that you’re apparently colorblind does nothing to help with racism. Rather, it’s erasing POC’s identities AND creating a problematic potential for privilege abuse and denial.

“I can’t be racist! I’m colorblind! …Wait, what’s that you say? I’m being ignorant and whitesplaining you about how your identity and pride of being a POC is irrelevant? Well, now YOU are being the racist one here. How can you possibly be PROUD of being a POC… We’re all human! Frankly, I think that it’s racist for you to be proud of your ethnic heritage. I’d get in trouble if I said that I was proud of being white. I am colorblind, so I don’t see race as an issue. I wish more people were colorblind like me…”

By saying that you are “gender blind,” you are completely erasing people’s gender identities.

Wait a sec, I’m not quite done yet.

bisexuals are attracted to biological men and women

Woah. Way to be cissexist and not understand what bisexuality is. The whole “bio man” “bio woman” thing is really othering. It’s telling trans* people that their identities are not valid because they must be biologically a man/woman to be a man/woman.

Basically, this response is awful.

“Gender blind”….

“Biological men and women” …

“Bisexual: Someone who is attracted to men and women” …

“all gender expressions- men, women, and trans*”

Need I go on?

Now I’m done.

^ALL OF THIS.

Who the hell are these “project queer” people and why don’t they know some of the most basic things about being queer?

In case anyone wonders why I say I’m ‘queer’ and not ‘pansexual’ even though I am attracted to people of a wide variety of genders?  That nonsense that the Project Queer people have to say about what pansexuality means is actually the most common explanation from pansexual people as to what pansexuality is.  And, given that I’m trans and that my being trans is neither my gender nor my sex nor does it put me in a third category of either of those, I find that definition to be utter rubbish, especially when you throw in the whole ‘genderblind’ craptasticism.  Which is to say I agree with all the previous commentary.

Unfuck this third gendering misgendering erasing bullshit and this “genderblind” crap

Also using “____ blind” is appropriative of people with disabilities.  Especially of note is that WHEN I TALK ABOUT MY COLORBLINDNESS I HAVE TO CLARIFY I’M TALKING ABOUT ABNORMAL COLOR VISION BECAUSE FUCKHEADS KEEP APPROPRIATING IT!

(Also I should clarify that the cissexism also sucks. Ick.)

Eew, I hadn’t thought of that.  Should’ve known better.

I’ve had this argument way too many times, but I had it yet again today. If the words have nothing to do with devaluing and reviling those with disabilities, but did at “some point in the distant past” mean people with disabilities, how do you think they have come by the “modern” meaning of bad, gross, stupid, wrong, whatever. Oh yeah, because people were using them as shorthand for all of those meanings, because those meanings had become attached to people with disabilities.

Tagging this with “lame” and “crazy” in the hopes that more clueless people might see it — if you think that’s not cool, message me and I’ll remove the tags.

PEOPLE WHO PRETEND TO BE AMANDA PALMER FANS PISS ME OFF SO MUCH.

PEOPLE WHO PRETEND TO BE FEMINISTS PISS ME OFF SO MUCH

By saying you are a FAN of AMANDA PALMER you are FAN of body acceptance and fucking the social norm. I’m sorry. But like. Amanda Palmer. If you are FAN, not just someone who…

shit, amanda palmer fans piss me off. consider the fact that you’re stanning for an ableist, psuedo-Katy Perry raping hipster who thinks the KKK is ironic, and you’ve got…well, irony.

Amanda Palmer is for accepting bodies! Specifically, HER BODY. Not so much anybody else’s! Particularly if they have a disability, then they are just a joke to her. Also a joke to her? The fucking KLAN.

Seriously, I loved that woman with all my heart for a while there, but she has clearly shown that she is NOT about fucking with social norms in any kind of meaningful way.

Yeeeeeah, this. I used to like Palmer for her music—I didn’t really pay attention to her blog unless something new music-wise was coming out, so I missed pretty much 70% of what was going on. But then I discovered the ableist way she went about doing the “Evelyn Evelyn” show (is there ANY way that could NOT be ableist? The whole point of it hinged on using a disability as a selling factor), and did some background reading, and now I can’t be bothered to like Palmer.

And when I saw the Katy Perry video, I just kind of stared at it in horror for a minute and then turned it off and had to reevaluate how I thought about Palmer as a “feminist.” Because while Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl” trivialized identity, that video trivializes sexual violence.

Yep, pretty much. A few years back I was a MASSIVE Amanda Palmer fan! And then her ableist album came out. And then she went on a talk show and openly mocked the “website full of…disabled feminists” (i.e., FWD/Forward) who called her out on her ableism. And then she started saying, over and over again, in no uncertain terms, that she thinks her right to produce ~edgy~ art trumps marginalized people’s rights not to be further oppressed. And then she started using hipster racism on her blog. And then she started pretending to rape a Katy Perry lookalike in her stage show.

Yeah, I haven’t been much of an Amanda Palmer fan in quite a while now.

lucypaw:

I was well on my way to being an Amanda Palmer fan after watching her “Leeds United” video every day for about a month (Yay for obsessive tendencies).  Then all of the stuff mentioned above happened.  I’ve never become a real Amanda Palmer fan.

NOT TO BEAT A DEAD HORSE, BUT:

In my view, her TV appearance was very, very explicitly mocking me and the other FWD contributors. As if we were coming after her with pitchforks. Even though I was the one who wrote that post, and then Lauredhel wrote one, and then many people started writing posts on LJ and DW, it was suddenly “A bunch of DISABLED FEMINISTS are CRUCIFYING MEEEEEE.” Fuckin’ erasing people and hivemind conspiracy crap, how does it work? I guess saying that a bunch of people are AFTER YOUUUU is easier than actually, y’know, reading what some of these people wrote, as is dispatching your fans to openly harass and threaten a select few of those people in particular. I was one of the people targeted, and it sucked, and I think we have to keep talking about how much internet harassment is swept under the rug and is not talked about, by and large.

Remember that episode of South Park where Cartman and Jimmy write the infamous “fish dicks/fishsticks” joke, and there are several flashbacks to what Eric “remembers” about how he and Jimmy came up with the joke—which turn out to be not at all accurate, and in some cases, completely ridiculous? Yeah, that is kind of what the whole TV appearance thing reminded me of.
