{ LINK: URGENT: Yanelli is scheduled to be deported on Tuesday, January 31st. She is struggling to hold it together after two suicide attempts. She needs to be home with her family getting help not facing deportation away from everything she knows! }
if at all possible, please call/sign/pass this around.
Maybe we weren’t able to help Joaquin Luna, but we can certainly help Yanelli. Take action and let’s make this happen.
One Call Could Make The Difference - GOAL is 2,000 calls!
Call ICE – John Morton @ 800-394-5855 or 202.732.3000 or 1-800-821-9358
Sample Script: “Hello I am calling to ask that Yanelli Hernadez (A# 205 012 525) be allowed to stay in the U.S. where she needs treatment. Yanelli is suffering from depression, has attempted to take her own life twice and should not be deported. This is wrong.”
PLEASE SHARE THIS PETITION AND ACTION ALERT WITH YOUR FRIENDS!
additional info from the email Dream Activist is sending out about this:
[WARNING for talk of her abuse in detention, in the text right below]
Stripped Naked and Given a Blanket
That’s how the detention center responded to Yanelli after she almost took her own life.
[END WARNING for talk of her abuse in detention (in text right above)]
And now, only months later, she is being shipped off away from the only family and friends who might be able to help her get better. Yanelli’s case is urgent, we only have until Tuesday to stop her deportation. Yanelli came to the United States all by herself when she was 13, this means that, if deported, she won’t have anyone to support her.
We need your help to get Yanelli out, she needs to be at home with her family receiving treatment. Things are not looking good for her, ICE has already moved her to a different location… the last stop for detainees before they are deported. We pretty much have 1 day to stop Yanelli’s deportation.
Make a call to John Morton, Director of ICE via one of these numbers:1-800-394-5855 or 202-732-3000 or 1-800-821-9358

In order to reach our goal of 2,000 calls we need to work together. Can you help us by changing your facebook profile picture to the image here [http://action.dreamactivist.org/alert.jpg]? That way everyone will know exactly what they need to do.
We cannot lose another undocumented youth to suicide; please take action and make a call to stop Yanelli’s Tuesday deportation.
[http://action.dreamactivist.org/Group6.jpg]
As a show of solidarity, in addition to calls, several states have planned vigils or phone-banks in support of Yanelli. She isn’t the only undocumented person suffering and so we need to be there for each other. If you can, after you make a call please take a quick picture and send it to us so that we can remind each other how much support we really have out there.

All over the country people are taking action for Yanelli, if you can attend one of the local events hosted in the following cities: Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, Chicago, New York City, Detroit, Tallahassee, Raleigh, Harrisonburg, San Francisco, Birmingham, Columbus and Cincinnati. We only have until Tuesday to save Yanelli’s life and we aren‘t going to go down without a fight! Will you help us reach our goal of 2,000 calls for Yanelli to be set free?
After you call please let us know how it went so we can keep track of how many calls we get. You can report back on this page, that way maybe your note will encourage someone else to take action as well.
We’ll keep you updated throughout the day. Thank you for all you do.

{ UPDATE: Yanelli is Missing - Call URGENT }
from another email:
We need your help. We called the local jail where Yanelli was being held and she is missing. She is not being held there any longer. We think she has been moved to the airport for deportation to Mexico. Yanelli’s attorney has not been notified of any decision. After thousands of calls from all of you ICE has not yet made a statement. They do not know how to react to this case so they are hoping we will just go away.
We have time to hold them accountable later, right now we need a strong Senate ally to step up and help us. Make an urgent call to Senator Reid (D) and ask that he intervene in Yanelli’s deportation.
Call Sen. Reid @ 1-800-394-5855 or 202-224-3542
Sample Script: “I am calling to ask that Sen. Reid help DREAMer Yanelli Hernadez (A# 205 012 525). Yanelli is being deported today. She suffers from depression and has tried to kill herself twice. Yanelli needs help. Will Senator Reid help DREAMer Yanelli?”
Please make your call and ask a friend to make a call. There is no reason why Yanelli should get deported. She is DREAM Act eligible. She is not a criminal. She needs treatment and to be home with her family.
We’ll keep you updated. Thank you.
Mohammad

{ ANOTHER UPDATE: Yanelli Is Being Deported Now - Call }
from another email:
A lot of different things have been going around, we thought for about an hour Yanelli had been deported, however she is still here. Her request for a Stay of Removal was denied a few hours ago and her deportation is imminent. This is a situation of life or death and we need our allies to fall on the side of life.
ICE is saying Yanelli is a criminal, she is not a criminal. They are saying she is guilty of forgery when in reality her Consular I.D. card had the wrong birthdate, a mistake by the Mexican Consulate, not forgery by Yanelli. This is a case where ICE is trying to find an excuse to deny Yanelli’s right to stay in this country. Yanelli is hurting and needs treatment, not deportation.
They are saying Yanelli has a DUI, and yes she was convicted of that. She blew a .09 when the State limit was .08. But this doesn’t take into account that she was self-medicating. That this is a case that needs to be taken in context. Yanelli was suffering and is still suffering. Yanelli has needed help for a long time. Yanelli’s life is in danger.

{ Yanelli was deported }
from another Dream Activist email:
Well things did not turn out as we had hoped, yesterday Yanelli was deported back to Mexico. We’ve been in touch with Yanelli and, even though she was deported, it does not mean our work ends. We’ll continue to work with her to see what support she needs and, if she decides to come back, we’ll help her with that too. Our community is too important to allow any of us to be lost in this fight.
Send a message of support to Yanelli and her family.
We want to take a moment to recognize and thank you for all of the work you and your friends were a part of in the last few days. In just three days, as a group we made over 4,000 calls, we gathered over 7,000 petition signatures and, most importantly, we got the message across that, regardless of your challenges, you are not in this alone.
Yesterday, in honor of Yanelli, we launched a new effort called UndocuHealth.org. In doing this work and just being a part of this struggle we recognize that many of us go through so much and so much of that time we are not able to share it with anyone. It builds up and eventually comes out in one form or another. Many of us suffer from depression. Many of us have attempted to take our own life at one point or another. Many of us suffer or suffered at one point through something and UndocuHealth.org is our stab at trying to create a community around our struggle and to help each of us recognize that we are not alone.
Remember Joaquin Luna? Well his family really stepped up and went all out to try to also help Yanelli. Their main motivation is just to make sure their son’s tragedy helps others. Join us as we thank them and others for their support of Yanelli. They joined us in helping launch the first ever National Undocumented Mental Health day. We hope you’ll join us and share your testimoy or just read along.
No one fights alone, join us at UndocuHealth :)
Much love,
Mohammad
