And now, only months later, she is being shipped off away from the only family and friends who might be able to help her get better. Yanelli’s case is urgent, we only have until Tuesday to stop her deportation. Yanelli came to the United States all by herself when she was 13, this means that, if deported, she won’t have anyone to support her.

We need your help to get Yanelli out, she needs to be at home with her family receiving treatment.  Things are not looking good for her, ICE has already moved her to a different location… the last stop for detainees before they are deported.  We pretty much have 1 day to stop Yanelli’s deportation.

As a show of solidarity, in addition to calls, several states have planned vigils or phone-banks in support of Yanelli.  She isn’t the only undocumented person suffering and so we need to be there for each other. { ANOTHER UPDATE: Yanelli Is Being Deported Now - Call }

A lot of different things have been going around, we thought for about an hour Yanelli had been deported, however she is still here.  Her request for a Stay of Removal was denied a few hours ago and her deportation is imminent. This is a situation of life or death and we need our allies to fall on the side of life.

“Hi I am calling to ask that Senator Reid do everything in his power to stop the deportation of Yanelli. She needs treatment and Senator Reid is the only one who can help. Please help Yanelli.

ICE is saying Yanelli is a criminal, she is not a criminal. They are saying she is guilty of forgery when in reality her Consular I.D. card had the wrong birthdate, a mistake by the Mexican Consulate, not forgery by Yanelli.  This is a case where ICE is trying to find an excuse to deny Yanelli’s right to stay in this country.  Yanelli is hurting and needs treatment, not deportation.

They are saying Yanelli has a DUI, and yes she was convicted of that. She blew a .09 when the State limit was .08. But this doesn’t take into account that she was self-medicating. That this is a case that needs to be taken in context. Yanelli was suffering and is still suffering. Yanelli has needed help for a long time. Yanelli’s life is in danger.

Regardless of Yanelli’s past we need to stop letting Yanelli down and help her for a change. Please join us in demanding life over deportation. Please call each of Senator Reid’s offices and make plea for support. We cannot do this without Senator Reid.

Less than two weeks after she spoke out about abuses women of Hyatt suffer on International Women’s Day, Morena Hernandez, a 15-year housekeeper at the Hyatt Andaz West Hollywood, has been suspended without pay.

Tell Hyatt to stop attacking women who speak up about abuse. Bring Morena back to work now!

On March 8, Morena participated in an International Women’s Day protest outside her hotel. She talked to local politicians about abuses housekeepers suffer and described how she takes medication regularly for back and shoulder pain.

On the same day, Morena was one of two housekeepers to leaflet guests at the hotel’s main entrance about the Hyatt’s unjust firing of two women in Santa Clara, Calif. The leaflets described how the Hyatt Santa Clara fired the Reyes sisters, with 30 years of combined experience, after an objection to the posting of demeaning pictures of housekeepers in bikinis on a bulletin board at work.

Women workers of Hyatt Hotels struggle daily with an employer that injures their bodies, disrespects their rights, and treats workers as if they are disposable. Morena has been vocal about these abuses, and now she finds herself under attack.

Tell Hyatt to stop attacking women who speak up about abuse. Bring Morena back to work now!

The Hyatt has yet to provide a written reason for Morena’s suspension. Please join us in sending a message to Hyatt Andaz General Manager that it’s attacks on women leaders must stop. Bring Morena back to work now.

By contacting Hyatt we can demonstrate that we have had enough of Hyatt’s disrespectful and hurtful treatment of women, and demand that Hyatt put this hardworking housekeeper back to work immediately.
