“Claudio, Marco, Nick, Luis, and Veronica were all arrested outside of Sheriff Baca’s jail. They were arrested bringing attention to the Sheriff’s destructive policies which have lead to the deportation of thousands each year. The 5 arrested were also asking for Governor Brown to finally sign the Trust Act.
All 5 are in Jail - Donate $25 to Help us Bail Them Out!”
this is from an email i got — sorry for not posting this sooner.
Because of Secure Communities here in LA County we see a lot of people being deported. People are being detained by the Sheriff for things like minor traffic tickets, riding a bike on the sidewalk, or even calling the police for help. Please support the 5 that took action and donate $25, $35 or $50 to their Bail Fund.
Last month the Trust Act was put on Governor Brown’s desk. The Governor now has until the end of this month to sign the bill. If signed; the Trust Act would take power away from Sheriff Baca and others like him who abuse their power to detain and deport our families. When this bill made the Governor’s desk Sheriff Baca came out with a statement saying he’d defy the law. This Sheriff needs to be stopped!
We have a lot of work ahead of us and we are ready to do it. As the Immigrant Youth Coalition we have a lot of events planned and plan on pushing to the very end to make sure Governor Brown signs the Trust Act. We need to make sure our families our safe.
Thank you for your support.
