and here’s a basic sample letter (link):

This letter is the most basic. It’s written as though to be sent to Angela Corey. I highly encourage anyone to add their own thoughts or CUSTOMIZE it to personalize it. People who have experienced domestic violence personally could have a lot of great things to say about this to Corey. It would be best if she didn’t receive a heap of identical letters, although that would still be better than nothing!!!
Happy writing!

Re: Marissa Alexander

Your Honor,

I am writing this letter to protest the recent decision to imprison Marissa Alexander for 20 years.

I believe that this verdict does not represent justice. Marissa Alexander was under attack and feared for her life. She had the right to stand her ground and should be protected under the Stand Your Ground Law, which states:

“A person who is not engaged in an unlawful activity, and who is attacked in any other place where he or she has a right to be has no duty to retreat and has the right to stand his or her ground and meet force with force, including deadly force if he or she reasonably believes it is necessary to do so to prevent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another or to prevent the commission of a forcible felony….” (codified in Florida Statutes 776.013(3)(2006))

I ask that you please reconsider your decision.

Sincerely,

A concerned citizen
