please pass this around/donate if possible.

from an email they’re sending out:

We are almost there. Last week we sent you an email about the Undocumented Bail Fund and our February fundraising drive, so far, with the help of 25 donors, we were able to raise $660! Thank you. We still have a bit of work to do though, our February fundraising goal is $2,000 and we are hoping you’ll join us as one of our donors?

Your donation will help DREAMers like Jaime Guzman. Jaime was arrested this past November in Montgomery, Alabama. Jaime’s story is unique in that he isn’t only a DREAMer but also a father. “It wasn’t easy for me to take a risk because I had so much to think about; my family, my own daughter. In that moment I realized I needed to take action. I realized that had my own parents not taken a risk I wouldn’t even be here. I took a risk in Alabama because I want to give my own daughter a better life.”

Jaime needs to get to Alabama, donate $10 to get him there.

Now, this coming Monday Jaime, along with nine others, need your help. They have all been ordered to appear in Montgomery, Alabama for trial. Jaime, like the rest, is very excited at this opportunity to state his case and that of immigrants all around Alabama. “We are here to work hard and give back to our communities. We need to stop allowing others to tell us how to live.” Please donate $25 to the Undocumented Bail Fund to help Jaime and other activists just like him who are facing charges from their arrest in Alabama.

All of the money raised will go towards helping folks who engage in civil disobedience. We believe in empowering those directly affected to take action and force a change. Just think what the Sheriff Arpaio’s of the world think: “Well the community is so scared they’ll be afraid to act!” And for the most part they have been right. Now it is our job to make sure anti-immigrant legislators realize our community, when pushed too far, will fight back. That is the power of civil disobedience and that is why we engage in it. Please donate $25 to the Undocumented Bail Fund making our work possible.

For Jaime going back to Alabama is a good thing: When we risked arrest the community was sure we would be deported, it’s all they knew. We managed to show them a new reality, the options are no longer just stay in hiding or get deported. Now they have a third option, come out and fight back. It worked for us and it can work for anyone!

Please support Jaime and the other activists by making a donation to the Undocumented Bail Fund.

Much love,

Mohammad
