Black and Missing: Monica Renee Bowie (link to Facebook page)
Monica Bowie was kidnapped from her parking deck on July 5, 2007 at approx. 11:14pm at the Berkshire at Lenox Apartments at 2124 Gables Dr NE, Atlanta, GA. A maroon 2002 Mercury Sable seen leaving the scene was located in Atlanta, abandoned & burned. The last time anyone wrote about Monica Renee Bowie was September 2007. The first time was a few days after she disappeared. That day, Monica was introduced to the public as an ex-convict and exotic dancer. And that day; her disappearance fell through the cracks.
Monica Renee Bowie was last seen outside her apartment complex in Atlanta, Georgia on July 5, 2007.[WARNING for talk of violence, in text right below]Several neighbors heard a woman screaming for help while police saw signs of struggles with pieces of Monica’s hair and nails on the ground. Monica last appearance wasn’t pretty; she was last seen being dragged to a car by two men.[END WARNING for talk of violence (in text right above)]Despite an arrest being made in her disappearance, Monica’s case began to turn cold. A few articles were written, but it was short-lived, being updated at least once a month. Her mother feared that she would be forgotten stating that, “Once the media stops, it’s hard to start it again”. It does not have to be that way,
Monica’s story can be heard again.
Monica was a young entrepreneur armed with a business degree and two successful companies. She was arrested a month before her disappearance after police found a handgun and marijuana in the car her fiancée was driving. However, the record needs to be set straight.
The only thing Monica was guilty of was being the owner of that car and associating with the wrong people. She did own a gun, but in her other car, legally and with a permit to carry a concealed weapon. Monica did indeed work as a dancer, but for 6 weeks in order to make ends meet before going into business.
Author D.L. Sparks remembers Monica as her best friend since high school. She states that from the moment they met, they have become inseparable, spending summers and nights at Monica’s house. Sparks, who dedicates her books to Monica, wants the world to know that this former drill team captain “has one of the biggest hearts” and brought smiles “almost effortlessly” to everyone she came in contact with. Monica will never be forgotten by her friends and family.
